RIT is one of the nation's premier career-oriented universities. Univerity News is the primary information link between RIT and a variety of audiences-the media, faculty and staff, trustees, students, parents and alumni. Its staff pitches hundreds of RIT-related story ideas annually to reporters and editors at print, broadcast and Internet news services.
University News publications include News & Events, RIT's newspaper of record, published biweekly during the academic year and University Magazine, RIT's alumni publication, produced three times a year and distributed to nearly 100,000 alumni, parents, faculty and staff, and other friends of the university. The department also maintains online databases of news releases, campus spotlight photos and experts available to the media for commentary. Recently launched, The Tiger Beat blog brings insight into the behind-the-scenes workings of a higher-ed public relations team.
As a News & Web Specialist at RIT University News for five years, Joanna was responsible for day-to-day operations of the University News web site as well as continued development and management of data and architecture. She spearheaded The Tiger Beat blog project, taking it from conception to reality, encouraging fellow team members to get excited and involved.
Joanna also worked on media campaigns, created dozens of press kits, and wrote several hundred press releases on topics ranging from techinical and scientific projects (e.g. remanufactured toner cartridges) to famous speakers and musical groups (e.g. Robert Redford, Magic Johnson and Drop Kick Murphys).
