Outpatient detoxification Maintenance therapy Individual, group and family therapy Chiropractic adjustments and therapy Chiropractic adjustments, when coupled with addiction recovery treatment programs, help people recover from addiction. Chiropractic treatments help people feel better on all levels – mentally, physically and emotionally. Day by Day Health Consultants has found it to be a good concurrent therapy to help conventional treatments work more effectively. When your spinal chord and its related nerved are in alignment, brain chemicals—neurotransmitters—are released in the right sequence, resulting in a state of well-being. But when you have spinal misalignments, this sequence is interrupted from the resulting pressure and inflammation in the tissue surrounding your spinal column. Recent research, published in Molecular Psychiatry, has shown that when an addiction treatment program was supplemented with frequent chiropractic adjustments over a 30-day period, patients had an unprecedented 100 percent program completion rate. Moreover, depression and anxiety were significantly reduced. Two other groups in the study (one who underwent only standard rehabilitation and another placebo ground) had significantly lower retention rates, finishing the program at the same rate as the average recovering addict in the United States –about 55 percent. Footnote: (put in smaller font, separated by a horizontal line break) Research was conducted by Jay Holder, a chiropractor and physician with the Exodus Treatment Center in Miami Beach. Holder's study used a specific chiropractic technique called the Torque Release Technique. This technique focuses less on the alignment of the bones and more on the "neurophysiology of the spine." Certain types of subluxations interfere with the tissue that extends from the brain stem through the spine and into the coccyx, hampering systems like the limbic system (known as the "seat of emotions") and throwing off neurotransmitters that keep us feeling our best. Holder's research suggests that drug treatment programs prove to be more successful with this type of chiropractic care.
