Your host for this journey is Cheryl Olson, an Adirondack native and intuitive guide, who will share a Native American perspective on our relationship with nature. Cheryl grew up in the Eastern Adirondacks, leaving her mountain home to go to college. She lived in a city environment for the next four decades; finally coming back after she retired to live half a mile from where she was born. "I missed the mountains," she says. "While I enjoyed living in the city, I function better away from an urban environment. The older I get, the truer that is." During her time away, the woods repeatedly called her home. When she'd return to visit family, she'd say hello and then wander down the mountain trails. Cheryl became a wilderness search & rescue canine handler—the weekends of training out in the woods, backpacking and hiking cross country, allowed her to reconnect, relax and find her inner peace. Then she could return, replenished, to her regularly scheduled life, taking with her the patches of peace she'd created in her mind. She says she wants to teach people the skills to put down their electronic gadgets and learn how to reconnect, face-to-face with each other. She feels that as we become distanced from the natural world by electronic barriers , more and more people of all ages are suffering from Nature Deficit Disorder, a condition coined by author Richard Louv. The way to cure it? Experience nature up close and first hand, soaking it in and replenishing the soul. Cheryl is a member of the American Society of Dowsers and uses dowsing almost daily to facilitate her everyday life. She's also a medium, Reiki practitioner, spiritual healer and student of Spiritualism. Please contact her for more information about dowsing workshops and meditation groups.

Are your employees in danger of burn out? Are they as productive as they could be? Has your business gotten off course? Find your balance at a Patch of Peace corporate workshop. De-stress. Re-energize. Come together as a team and reconnect to your common goals. Today’s business world hums with cell phones, computers, iPods and other technological wonders meant to make our lives easier. Or at least faster-paced. These electronic “blessings” enable us to move through our days at a speed that would have bewildered our ancestors. We feel superficially connected to each other through cell phones and e-mail. But have we lost our truest connections of the heart and spirit? While our level of electronic interaction increases, our ability for human interaction decreases. By being so plugged in to our gadgets, have we lost our connection to each other? Tribal societies counted time by the passing of the sun and the moon. They were aware of the dew on the grass, the tracks of a deer, the silence of the dawn. They were in touch with their own essence and spirit. They were whole. Patch of Peace workshops provide an opportunity to hop off the treadmill for a while, pack away all electronic distractions and allow yourself to just be. Be still. Be aware. Be connected. Patch of Peace is an easy day trip from Albany, Burlington, Plattsburg and Glens Falls. Overnight accommodations can be made at nearby B&Bs. Programs for larger groups can also be arranged at your location at a nearby nature spot. Please call (PHONE NUMBER HERE) for group rates. Ever come home from your vacation needing another vacation to recuperate? If you’re planning a holiday in the Adirondacks, include a Patch of Peace workshop in your relaxation plans. You’ll arrive home refreshed, relaxed and able to keep your vacation going – at least in your mind. While we’re not a traditional retreat with overnight accommodations, there are several lovely B&Bs nearby that we can recommend. Our spiritual mini-retreats will help you reduce stress, learn to focus and create peace in your life, wherever you may go. Cost is $30 half day, $50 full day. When was the last time you – Could hear no traffic? Went barefoot? Lay on your back and watched clouds? Watched an ant carry a crumb? Released all tension? Held a conversation with a bird? Watched a spider build her web? Smelled damp earth? Sat still long enough to hear your own heart? Had absolutely nothing required of you? Patch of Peace workshops are tailored to each individual and their abilities. Want to climb a mountain? We can do that. Would you rather sit in a mossy glade and contemplate the ground? That’s OK, too. Expect guided experiences to help you de-stress and find peace by reconnecting with the natural world. Expect to slow down – your breath, your heart rate, your mind – and start to figure out how you fit in the world. Expect to turn off your cell phone (we don’t get good reception out here, anyway). Expect to go home with a new awareness. Expect to learn new skills to incorporate into your daily life – meditation, visualization. Expect to be quiet. To listen. To feel the breeze on your skin. To hear an ant climb a blade of grass. In general, a Patch of Peace workshop goes something like this: From Cheryl’s secluded woodland home in the eastern Adirondacks, you will walk to a quiet, mossy glade and share a guided meditation. During this meditative experience, you will access the cellular memory of ancient ancestors whose senses were attuned to each nuance and breath of mother earth. With your energies calmed and awakened, you’ll be gently guided to notice and appreciate all that which we routinely rush past – the veins in a leaf, the smell of damp earth, the song of the wind. Notice it and breathe it into your soul. Experience the stillness and peace that is so elusive in today’s fast-paced, digital world. Rejuvenate and heal your spirit in the beauty of nature while learning how to create patches of peace in your everyday life.
